Technology and the environment are fundamental building blocks of economic development. Human beings have invented a variety of technologies that have enabled material prosperity. At the same time, however, they have used natural resources wastefully and damaged the environment. How can we sustain economic growth while protecting our planet? The key is to promote innovation that reduces environmental impact and improves resource efficiency. To develop such technology, it is necessary to develop institutions that provide correct incentives for innovation. Institutions ―economic or political, local or global― matter for technological development and the future of our ecosystem. Our research group explores these topics from the view point of economics, using mathematical and statistical analysis.
